The Previous Versions Client allows pre Server 2003 and XP clients to utilize the Volume Shadow Copy Service in Server 2003/2008. Using VSS on a network file share allows your users to recover lost or changed content without calling tech support or pulling out backup tapes. I do recommend utilizing an inexpensive USB HD on you server as the store for your VSS. This allows you the full capacity of your primary storage to be utilized and allows for shadow copies to go farther back in time before being overwritten. Yes it does. The text in the course (6421) is somewhat misleading. 2 way replication is still happening. If you add or delete data from either the source or the destination, that change is reflected on the replication partner. The difference between Multimaster replication and Data Collection replication in DFS is this: - Multimaster allows replication between many servers. - Data Collection allows replication between only 2 servers. The advantage to this is you can utilize data collection for backing up data at a remote office. DFS is not a replacement for backups, but it is another tool in your arsenal.

This is somewhat interesting. Auto updates are not running when server core is installed. The command line to do this is a bit different. Not all tasks can be managed on Server Core via the command line or an MMC. For those tasks, Microsoft provided a script called SCRegEdit.WSF . Automatic updates is one of those things this script takes care of. In researching this question, I’ve found that there seems to be some debate as to whether or not your DHCP options of 66 and 67 need to be set. In this senerio, Microsoft Support says neither. Your client performing a network boot will proceed thru the normal method of acquiring an address through DHCP. Once that is done, it will start the process over again, this time looking for a PXE server. Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 is a scaled back version of Windows Server 2008 with a focus on supporting virtualization with a small footprint print on your hardware. Microsoft recommends using this version for Test and Development, basic server consolidation, branch office consolidation, and hosted desktop virtualization. There are some limitations though. This is not a full blown copy of Windows Server 2008. If you need disaster recovery, business continuity, or more than 32GB of RAM, You need to look at a full copy of Windows Server 2008.
